Christmas with Mrs. Claus

As a mom, I have found there is so much pressure (most unnecessary I might add) to have your kids included in every class possible so that they do not get bored, left behind, or socially stunted. Really??
Growing up in a large family I didn't have the luxury of being entertained every minute of every day by our parents or other adults. To tell you the truth I am grateful I wasn't because it did give me time to be bored, to learn to find my own fun, and to just learn to be content being on my own.

When I became a mom, I still had a full time job which lasted until my second child was due. As I was learning to navigate motherhood to two children (soooooo much harder than a full time job!), my daughter had many opportunities to be bored but I began to looked for little breaks not only for myself but for my 2 year old. We found pre-school classes offered by Gilbert Parks & Recreation. They were a wonderful answer to our needs and I would recommend them to anyone with young children.

Every December Gilbert Recreation Center has "Tea with Mrs. Claus" and this year I was asked if I would donate cookies and attend with my kids. I happily accepted because GP&R has been a wonderful part of my children's lives and learning.

Tea included Santa's elves mingling with guests, yummy food from several local businesses, story time with Mrs. Claus and a surprise visit from Beauty and the Beast.  My kids loved every minute of it and I am so grateful to this community and the efforts they put forth and I was honored to be asked to participate.

My apprentice

My 5 year old daughter's attempt at turning a leaf shaped cookie into a turkey.

Just a tasty reminder than they watch us (closer than I would like sometimes), and that we need to be someone they look up to.

I can't wait until she perfects her flooding technique, she'll be unstoppable. Don't you just love the white eye lashes? She said "that's so they'll know it's a girl turkey!"

My Cupcake Addiction

I have been following  Elise Strachan on www.mycupcakeaddiction.com for quite some time and I am so glad I was scrolling through Instagram at 11pm last night or I would have missed that she was going to be here in Arizona today.

I loved listening to her tell the backstory of how she got started and amazed at how far she has come. Her cookbook is chalked full of fun and yummy treats and awesome ways to hosts a fabulous party.

If you have a chance to meet Elise or even just pick up her book, you will not regret it. I was pretty star struck myself, and who can get over that accent, it's the best!

Halloween Cookies

The Halloween cookie fever is going strong here today and thanks to www.instagram.com/ks.cookie.creations/ for the inspiration for this bunch of scary faces!

I whipped up a couple dozen because nothing makes getting Halloween "Boo'ed" more fun than finding these little cuties on your front porch.
Plus, ding dong ditching is still one of my most favorite things to do!
Although literally carrying my 5 year old while running out of sight is more of a workout than I bargain for 99% of the time. I probably need a workout (or 100) after eating more monsters than I'm willing to admit.

Meet the Dash of Sweets Staff

Allow me to introduce you to the staff of Dash of Sweets:

Lindsay... that's me
I am the head honcho behinds the operation and cookie/treats maker baker.
If you can't find me in the kitchen baking and filling orders, you can find me hanging out with my family and drinking Dr Pepper.... LOTS of Dr Pepper!

The Guy:
My hubby, and self appointed "Chief Executive", that part is still TBD, but he does hold the position of biggest supporter and boy does he fill that role well. He is an NP by day and cookie tester by night and I love having him by my side in this crazy adventure.

The under age and under paid employees are:

Little Miss:
She is well on her way to a spot at the big decorating table, for a 6 year old her piping skills are wicked good. I can always count on her to test the cookie dough and she is always ready with a compliment on my finished products. She keeps my ego soaring!

Little Man:
If the mixer is running I can count to 3 and he will show up out of nowhere, spoon in hand, wondering what our next project is. He is working on his piping skills almost as much as he works on writing his abc's and is probably going to be permanently damaged by the amount of sugar he inhales.

After a long day of filling orders, her apron is my sentiments exactly!
I love this business and am so excited to share this adventure with you all.
